Target Audience Research

Today in the lesson we all gave the name of our favourite music video. After all of them were collected we chose three to present: Beyoncé - Blue, Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happiness and Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone. We watched each video and then as a class gave suggestions of what we liked about the video and why.

I have learnt that they key appeals to 17-19 year olds is to capture what we are into such as partying like in the Kid Cudi video. With the Beyoncé video it was all girls who liked the video, it appealed to us because we felt connected to Beyoncé as her baby was in it. It was also mostly girls that liked the Avril Lavigne video, I think this was due to the fact it was 'lovey dovey' and girls of this age are into boys and relationships.

From the videos we looked at they did not really inspire me for my video, the only thing I picked up was the editing in the Kid Cudi video which was blurred and in slow motion, this could work for one of my ideas and I may look further into this.

This Avril Lavigne video is a narrative love story through different ages, skewed towards females. This is mostly directed at teenagers however her fans from the 90's have grown with her and her songs then are still favourites for people aged 17-19 year olds.
This video was mostly liked by girls and was a really liked video as it does not seem commercialised and felt quite personal and intimate. This is good for a fan as you feel closer to the artist and you get a sense of what the artist is really like.
Geared towards young adults and teenages due to the values of alcohol and druges. It is quite trippy and blissful therefore both girls and boys are skewed towards it.
