Tertia and Will
This is the video that we took yesterday, we took a few but this is the best one. So this is the performance element we will put into our pilot, obviously edited and cut to how we want it to be.

Filming the band
One of my group members (Liv) and I went to film the band for Liv to meet them and see what they're like but also to enable us to get a feel of what the video will look like therefore we took videos of them whilst playing from different angles and different shot so we could cut together a pilot video. Now we need to film the narrative scene and the lip synch scene in the studio then we are able to cut the pilot together. This went really well and I think it will benefit our group a lot.

Set research - lip synch
Shot Examples
Leila researched a few videos that included similar shots to the ones we are thinking of however they wouldn't be so colourful and the glitter would be falling around the band to go with the slow guitar solo and other parts of the song. We would also have all the glitter blurred and then sharp - pull focus. We thought this would work in slow motion because it fits with the song however we will need to try this out to check everything out.
In our video she will be smoking at a bus stop, we thought this would fit with the relaxed mood of the song. Also if it is a cold morning this would work well against the frosty feel. Also we do slow this down a bit as I think it would be more effective.

Location research
Part of the video includes the main singer walking around a record store. Therefore we searched and found two in Guilford ( a town nearby):

Timelines
In today's lesson and yesterdays lesson we were finalising our ideas and doing the timeline. We started off by doing a rough version and then we did the more firmed upped story board. From this we started shooting a pilot today of the band performance.
Set research - performance
Today in the lesson I was researching the set for the studio. We knew we wanted the performance and part of the lip synch in the studio however we did not know what the set would look like therefore we did some research and screen-shotted some of the ideas of the look we are going for.

Maybe more similar to this lighting but we want it more natural however we do want the smoke idea to give an eerie feel. |

This demonstrates the smoke idea |

This is what we want the windows to be like, also the artists are not silhouettes which is what we want. The above lighting is quite harsh so we would want to make that more natural. |

Looking at similar ideas
BIRDY - PEOPLE HELP THE PEOPLE
This video is very similar to our idea of a journey from a bus to a record store. She is lip synching on the bus and then walking through a town which is what we want. After watching this video we got the idea of having the video in black and white as it fits well with the song.
We also loved the idea of reflections after watching this video.

Definate Groups
In the lesson we changed groups due to the fact that the lesson before Luke liked 3 of the ideas that the classes pitched therefore Phil decided to split the group into 3 with each 4 people in each group.
Dmitri has now left my group and Franchi has joined along with Leila and Liv. Now we have our groups sorted we are really concentrating on getting our idea sorted. Today we came up with the 3 strands that we will be using in our video which is the performance element, the lip synch element and the narrative element which will be the girl(Tertia)getting on a bus and going to a record store as the song sounds quite 70s and record stores were prominent then. We will be doing the timeline tomorrow and finalising the idea so we can work closely with the timings etc.

Research - performance
Before we pitched out idea to Luke we looked into the performance element of the video. As they name themselves as "urban jazz" we thought to have it in an urban setting which led to ideas of it being a small intimate gig, being in a warehouse, or being on a rooftop. For this research we gathered images to help us get a visual idea of what it will look like.

Pitch to Luke on two ideas
These were the two prezis our group pitched to Luke. Liv and I pitched the WBT one which he seemed to like a lot however we need to sort out the location and what the video is going to be about but he liked the idea of using a real band. Also we suggested the idea of using public transport for some shots of her thinking to herself but Luke said we may need something more exciting in the video because you don't just want a girl on a bus for 45 seconds, it will get boring.
The other idea, which Dmitri and Leila pitched on behalf of our group about the boy band is obviously easy to do, however he did not like the idea and kept questioning why anyone would watch it. The ideas were easy to do and it is quite a simple video.
To conclude, at the end of the lesson Luke suggested we have an idea to work on and keep it going, it will be a good idea if we work out all the elements and make it work! I'm very excited and hope the rest of the research goes well!!
Research into conventions and artists
In the lesson we went through with our group the ideas of the genre of music for our two music videos. The two genres are pop and electronic.
With the electronic one we couldn't quite work out how it will all fit together so I put forward the idea of using a band I know called WBT and using one of their songs. We then did another brainstorm with this idea and it was a much clearer idea so we pitched this idea to Luke after researching similar artists and their conventions.

Pitch of ideas to class feedback
In the lesson on Thursday we pitched out ideas. I went about 4th so got an understanding of what I was supposed to do! I presented my three ideas and went through each one in quite a bit of detail.
King Charles was also liked by some people however there would be a slight problem if the weather was bad it wouldn't work as the atmosphere and mood would need to be on a sunny day.
Two weeks video was liked however might not have been enough ideas to film. The water ideas was also very liked and could be incorporated into another idea. The idea matched the song well and you could make it quite abstract and visual.
It helps the video thrive if there are big planks eg ideas in the video so it doesn't feel as if it is just going on and on.
From this feedback, the idea of West Coast Lana Del Rey has grown even stronger in my mind however from hearing other peoples ideas and feedback I have decided maybe not to include the party scene as this is quite cliche. I really want to take foward to smoke idea with strobe lights for when the artist is singing.
My next steps will be thinking further about the Lana Del Rey video, I have already thought about the person I would like however I may change the song as she is a singer so could use her song. I am going to research some music videos that are similar and include water and bright lights.

Target Audience Research
Today in the lesson we all gave the name of our favourite music video. After all of them were collected we chose three to present: Beyoncé - Blue, Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happiness and Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone. We watched each video and then as a class gave suggestions of what we liked about the video and why.
I have learnt that they key appeals to 17-19 year olds is to capture what we are into such as partying like in the Kid Cudi video. With the Beyoncé video it was all girls who liked the video, it appealed to us because we felt connected to Beyoncé as her baby was in it. It was also mostly girls that liked the Avril Lavigne video, I think this was due to the fact it was 'lovey dovey' and girls of this age are into boys and relationships.
From the videos we looked at they did not really inspire me for my video, the only thing I picked up was the editing in the Kid Cudi video which was blurred and in slow motion, this could work for one of my ideas and I may look further into this.
Geared towards young adults and teenages due to the values of alcohol and druges. It is quite trippy and blissful therefore both girls and boys are skewed towards it.

This Avril Lavigne video is a narrative love story through different ages, skewed towards females. This is mostly directed at teenagers however her fans from the 90's have grown with her and her songs then are still favourites for people aged 17-19 year olds.
This video was mostly liked by girls and was a really liked video as it does not seem commercialised and felt quite personal and intimate. This is good for a fan as you feel closer to the artist and you get a sense of what the artist is really like.
