GENRE - DANCE Lana Del Rey (ZHU Remix) - West coast
This idea consists of three performances with no narrative. As the song has a strong beat I would have two boys dancing in the style of stepping. This would be done in the studio with a background of the view of cities and bridges, almost like a journey through London with rooftop views and the lights of London will be very prominent. Whilst the boys are dancing the camera should get very julty in the edit section so when they are dancing it has lots of different frames changing and zooming in really fast.
Close up on lips like these
Lighting will be a main subject in this video, with the backdrop being led by light. When the dancing is not happening the other concentration is an ECU on a girls lips singing the song. This would be smokey all around with strobe lights going to the beat and a completely dark background so all you can see is the lips singing the lyrics when the strobe lights go. There would also be a DJ booth as if in a club, the DJ would be a boy and he would have headphones round his neck. Again it would be dark and smokey however the lights would be multicolour as the beat is quite jumpy so these can connect. When the mans voice comes in the DJ could mouth the words as if it was his song. The DJ would be shown when there is no lyrics; the dancing and DJ sets would swap. These three settings would complete the video as it is a very dance/electronic therefore it should be very disjointed and have good vibes.
This song is from her first album called "LP1". She is new into the industry therefore making an image for her could be constructed without knowing much about the artist. This song struck me as soon as I heard it and therefore knew it would be an idea of mine for this A2 project.
In this video there will be three different situations. The first would be a girl in a smokey room who is singing the song, the second is a girl floating in a white dress underwater and the third will be a girl and boy dancing in the silhouette. The video would start off with a girl in a room full of smoke and the camera angle would change every time the beat changes until the voice comes in. Then the camera would be a close up of her face and she would start singing to the song. This would zoom out and the
room would be less smokey, the wide shot would be of the girl singing and there would be air blowing at her, she is wearing a long white floaty dress therefore the air would be blowing her dress and hair back giving an angelic feel. This would cut to the girl underwater as the floaty dress links and while the song is still slow it fits.
This would then cut to a silhouette of a girl dancing at 0.42 - 0.48 she would dance and move like a robot to each word changing as this sound is very static like a robot. I want the dancing to be a contrast to the floaty underwater/smokey feel. As the song then slows down again she would be underwater and make constant cuts to her singing in the smokey room. The dancing girl becomes lazy and almost like she is dead as she stands with both arms at a right angle and lets her forearms just sway which portrays she has no energy and weak limbs. This idea is almost like a puppet dance and her arms and legs are being controlled by someone else.
Then as the song is about another girl getting a boy it would make sense to have a boy come into the dancing section as a silhouette and dancing with her which brings energy back to her and they dance robotically fast pace.
GENRE - ALTERNATIVE KING CHARLES - MISSISSIPPI ISABEL
King Charles is a singer/song writer from London. He is trained as a classical singer as well as playing the guitar, piano and cello, with these abilities there is a range of aspects to explore in his music. "Mississippi Isabel" was from his first album in 2011 called "LoveBlood". This video would be a mix of both performance and narrative. Also with the fast beat and the claps the editing would be fast pace and quite static to keep up with the beat, this would make the piece exciting. NARRATIVE The narrative is of the boy and girl walking/running/dancing through a field, or down a road/through a village. Through this narrative the idea of the boy and girl being in love can be portrayed. This song is about a girl called "Mississippi Isabel". He sings about her beauties and what she likes. Therefore the video will centre around her and his love for her. The camera will be following this girl as she potentially runs through a field or down the road. There will be close up shots of the girl and also POV shots of him looking at her, thus we can start to understand his love thoughts. I want a girl and a boy, around age 17/18 to be together.
The setting in the field would be at sunset so there is a mood that goes with the song. I think this time of day fits well. One idea could be walking through a field and in the song the lyrics go "She grows wild strawberries" therefore they could be having a picnic with strawberries. She could be holding a basket for their picnic whilst walking through the field. As they are walking through a field they could cross pretty bridges as this shows a sense of journey.
Another idea is that they could be cycling or walking down a road/through a village together on an old bicycle to their picnic. The same idea of them being in love on their bicycle they could be laughing with each other and constantly looking at each other. As they walk/cycle through a village they could pass by a florist and he could buy her flowers or just pick some flowers up for her as this is quite a romantic gesture. There is a break from lyrics at 1.24-1.41 in which they could be dancing around their picnic blanket laughing and hugging eachother.
PERFORMANCE
The performance side of this would be an indie looking boy, the same boy in the narrative playing the piano as this is a very prominent part of the music. The performance would be situated in a bar on stage as a literal performance to the public. This gives a contrast from the narrative in the field. By giving him this look it fits with the whole sound of the music as it is quite original. There would also be an audience that would be enjoying the music. There would be the boy playing the piano, and two other boys, one clapping and one playing the guitar. The idea is similar to this clip from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 1969"
