Audience Feedback

Today were joined with some other media classes so they could give us feed back on our final piece to help us understand where we could have done better.

We asked these questions after the audience watched the piece:
  1. Do you like it and why?
  2. What don't you like?
  3. What could be improved?
  4. What do you think the story is about?
  5. Who do you think the target audience is?
When we asked our audience what they liked about the film they said they liked our use of diegetic sounds to highlight the action and the variation of shots for example the keyhole shot and the shot from underneath the tripod. They also said they liked the fact that you were unable to see the characters face combined with the ominous music to create suspense and mystery. The audience also particularly liked that the music matched the actions quite well, mainly in the part in which Adam opened the zip and a low piano key sounded.

The audience felt the storyline was quite unclear, though most people did think the movie was based around some form of abduction, which it was. The audience were also unaware that there was a girl in the scene and this could have been made more obvious by possible diegetic sounds or using a prop such as a baby toy. It is clear from this misunderstanding that in the future the story must be slightly clearer but not giving anything anyway.

We asked the classes who they thought was the target audience and they said that they think an audience between the ages of 16-30 would enjoy the film the most. This was a success as it is the target audience we wished to attract when creating our thriller. The 16-18 group from our classes said they enjoyed our thriller however they would have liked a bit more action and for it to be clearer that the girl was there however the 30+ group argued that they thought the slow paced build up of suspense and the sense of ambiguity in what the character was doing worked very effectively.
