Audience Feedback
Today were joined with some other media classes so they could give us feed back on our final piece to help us understand where we could have done better.
The audience felt the storyline was quite unclear, though most people did think the movie was based around some form of abduction, which it was. The audience were also unaware that there was a girl in the scene and this could have been made more obvious by possible diegetic sounds or using a prop such as a baby toy. It is clear from this misunderstanding that in the future the story must be slightly clearer but not giving anything anyway.
We asked the classes who they thought was the target audience and they said that they think an audience between the ages of 16-30 would enjoy the film the most. This was a success as it is the target audience we wished to attract when creating our thriller. The 16-18 group from our classes said they enjoyed our thriller however they would have liked a bit more action and for it to be clearer that the girl was there however the 30+ group argued that they thought the slow paced build up of suspense and the sense of ambiguity in what the character was doing worked very effectively.
We asked these questions after the audience watched the piece:
- Do you like it and why?
- What don't you like?
- What could be improved?
- What do you think the story is about?
- Who do you think the target audience is?

Evaluation Task 5: How did you attract/address your audience?
How did you attract/address your audience?
Straight away it is clear that our film is not a fast pace action movie as it starts with a slow pan across the wall which doesn't provide instant gratification and requires patience which usually connects with an older audience.
Our film also has a lot of professional technology and although children know a lot about technology, the equipment used is above their knowledge therefore the older audience can relate more to what he is doing.
We have established a primary audience as 15-30, when the images of the children come up on his laptop screen it may make the younger of our audience feel uncomfortable as the children on the screen are not much younger than them therefore feel uncomfortable.
We wanted to create mystery and suspense to capture the audience into the film as they will not know what is going on. This is the only point you see his face but it is not clear; most of the time it is just his hands or feet. An older audience would link these pictures to the idea that there will be children or a child in the film whereas a younger viewer may be confused as to why he is looking at children.
The sound used is suspenseful and tense. This adds tension to the slow pace of the opening sequence. A younger audience may not understand this build up as to what is going on whereas an older audience would.
