Digipak and photoshoot

Leila and Liv's sketched ideas
Liv and Leila went ahead with designing the photoshoot for our digipak, this was very helpful whilst Franchi and I started the website last week. They decided all the types of pictures that I will need to take of the photoshoot.

  1. Two of them together, head shots from different angles - this will be for the front of the digipak
  2. Glitter close up and blurred - this is for the back which I will be doing on the light table in the photography studio that we have at school
  3. Side angles of faces - this will look quite abstract and this will be for one of the middle panels.
On the shoot that I will do I will take a variety of different images so when we come to make the digipak we have a range of images to work from and with. I may not just take photos in the studio, I may go outside to have a wider range.
We really like Alunageorge's digipak as they are a boy and a girl and seem similar to Tertia and Will as they do not look like they are in a relationship but look like friends that clearly work together with their music which is exactly what Tertia and Will do.

THE PHOTOSHOOT TOMORROW
I will be working in a studio, on a light table and outside.

PLAN - what I am doing now

  • Tomorrow (Wednesday) I will be doing a photo shoot with the band so we get the photos for the digipak and some for the website.
  • I will start designing the digipak on photoshop after the photo shoot so I ahem the images to work with.
  • Carry on with the performance cut of the editing. I have been editing a performance cut to start with which I will then add in the other strands so I know where to put them. These editing sessions ail be recorded and added to my blog.
  • Help Franchi and Liv with the website

THE SET UP

The day before the shoot Liv and I set up the backdrop for the performance element of the shoot. I got a frame made by some people I know and then Liv and I attached some material which would let the light we want to create. This was quite simple it just took time but we wanted to set up the day before even though the rest of our group couldn't do it because we wanted to set up filming straight away in the morning as the band had a gig to go to in the evening so we were limited with time.

Website progress

This is the homepage of our website which Franchi and Livvy worked on yesterday. I love everything about it and the colour shame works so well. The background photograph is quite abstract but works well as it runs with the theme of the other websites.
I asked Franchi to go over the website with me and what she had done as I want to have a say in all of the products we create as I think it is important everyone has a say in what we do and this has worked well throughout the group. They said that they changed the text as they found that the text was too electronic and didn't suit the band so they chose a different one. Having gone through the website we Franchi and Livvy it is clear that we will have to do a lot of tweaking and changing to make it perfect in the end but this is a really good start and I am looking forward to working with them and our other group member Layla to create good work.
These photos will not be all the photos in the end but we have put them there as a stand in although I think that the background  one page photo works really well.

Linking all these sites to the website
We also linked their original twitter and tetras sound cloud to the website so that will automatically go straight to their sites. We thought it would be good to set up an Instagram account too so Livvy put up photos from the shoot day and some photos of the two of them. To the left is the instagram page which we set up and to the right is their twitter page which we have linked to in the website. This is below on the left we are linking these sites to their webpage. Also below is Tertia's sound cloud therefore audiences and fans can click on this and there may be some free downloads which will help promote the band. We thought that as they are a real band and already have these social media websites we could take advantage of them and put them on our website.

We wanted to make an enter page so it doesn't go straight to the home page, this is the design so far -

Website updates

Two of my group members Franchi and Livvy worked on the website which I had started. We all looked into similar artists and their websites and then came together to create our website. By doing this we had a good understanding of what the layout is usually like, which we worked out was minimal on the home page, and what the style was like. We looked at Alt J, London Grammar and the XX.

Editing

We started making two cuts of the video, I did one. I started off with a performance cut so we could then decide what elements to put where to break up the video. However this cut didn't get very far therefore Franchi took it over, in the end we decided to scrap both cuts and Leila stayed at school to create a third cut which became our real thing.

This is my work from editing:

Creating the website

The website is actually harder to make then I thought. I used a simple template on six to start off and am starting to understand the logistics of the website maker. I tried to change the images on the website but it would not let me so I will be doing this where I get better signal.

Digipaks

A digipak is usually a patented style of CD packaging, and is a registered trademark of AGI-Shorewood, an Atlas Holdings LLC company. They are structured like a book therefore gate-folded with either four, six or eight panels. They usually contain a list of track and an extra booklet which contains lyrics, biography and a list of up coming events. The main key elements of a digipak are the text and the pictorial elements.

Four side digipak

8 panel digipak

Digipaks are generally for an older generation who do not use technology as much as the younger generation. They are also for true fans who like to have a hard copy for their collection and use.

MY DIGIPAK IDEAS

To the left is our planning for our digipak. We want a four panel digipak and may do a limited edition pack too. I am currently in the process of editing some photos together to see what works and what doesn't. When we were creating the designs for the digipak we started off with four headings which were colour, ideas, conventions and star image, once we had come up with all these ideas it was quite simple to come up with ideas for the digipak.
